Biological systems are notoriously highly complex and shaped by a number of abiotic and biotic interactions which influence the biology of organisms and ecosystem functioning.  In the Marine Microbial Systems Biology theme we make use of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and bioinformatics to understand how microbial communities are shaped by environmental conditions and how they respond to environmental change. Our research spans over a wide range of topics, such as the dynamics of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), the mode and rate of viral decay in marine systems, and the energy requirements of bioproduction in deep sea hydrothermal system.
